RED OAK SLAB

Red Oak (Quercus Rubra)

Tree:  Can reach heights of 80-115 ft. tall with a 3-6 ft. trunk diameter.
Wood:  Heartwood is a light to medium brown, commonly with a reddish cast.  The nearly white to light brown sapwood is not always sharply demarcated from the heartwood as it may be in other species of trees.  Grain is straight, with a coarse, uneven texture.  The pores are very large and open.  It has been said that if the grain is straight, one can blow into one end of the wood, and air will come out the other end.
Working Properties:  Good results with hand and machine tools.   Responds well to steam-bending and glues, stains and finishes well.
Uses:  Cabinetry, furniture, interior trim, flooring and veneer.
