Let's Face It, It's All About the Wood
On This Day in Yonkers History
December 8, 1906
After meeting with the Board of Education, Yonkers Common Council vetoed the proposal of building a school on Mulberry Street. Several aldermen said that since the building would be built in a hollow on swampland, children would be in danger of contracting malaria.
Bromance for real
We met Dan and Rachel when they were referred to us by another vendor and looking for a custom size desk for their new place. 11' is no easy find but it's a size we have in stock all the time. After a visit to the yard, they decided on a 11' x 27" spalted maple slab and some metal shelves to compliment it.
Once delivered my Brother Dan and I took care of the installation.

John Kendrick Bangs was appointed editor of the Metropolitan Magazine and the Daily Telegraph. Both publications had been purchased by Harper & Brothers in 1902.
Bangs, an American author, humorist, editor and satirist, was a native son of Yonkers. He studied at Columbia College where he became editor of Columbia's literary magazine. After graduating he became an Associate Editor of Life.
In 1888 he went to work for Harper's Magazine, Harper's Bazaar and Harper's Young People.
In 1894 Bangs ran for the office of mayor of Yonkers, but was defeated. He was a member of the Yonkers Board of Education.
In 1904 he was appointed editor of Puck, perhaps the foremost American humor magazine of its day.
John Kendrick Bangs died of stomach cancer in 1922 at the age of fifty-nine.

Red Letter Day
In all our years crafting and installing our creations, we can honestly say that working with the Widawsky family has been the most gratifying and enjoyable experience for us. Their Spalted Maple desk and metal shelving look exquisite in their beautiful new home. Thank you Widawskys for the opportunity to work with you on this project.
The best laid plans of mice and men, oft go awry
And a bit awry they have gone. Sometimes it happens when you fly standby, you may not make it on the flight. What to do? In this case, you travel from Barcelona to Madrid to try and get on another standby home. Stayed tuned. I may get home tomorrow or the end of the week. LOL
Last Night
Should have taken a picture of the delicious vegetable paella BEFORE we ate it. Trust us, it was fantastic. Here's to Gusto in Sevilla!
Dessert at Amorío was just as delicious.
The beach at El Puerto de Santa Maria
Family living so close to the beach is always a good thing.
No matter where we go, New York, and pizza, are never far behind

A Visit to the Tio Pepe Bodega in Jerez, Spain
Visited the vaunted Tio Pepe "bodega" in Jerez, where they make world renowned sherry, wines, whiskey, etc. It was like stepping back into the 19th and early 20th centuries. Fascinating, take a look.
Of Mice and Vino
Curious factoid: Mice in the Tio Pepe Bodega take part in the tasting process, really. A glass of wine is left out for them every night. Check it out,
Cadiz
Lots of rain this whole trip, but not a problem...yet.
